Universal had been hinting at this expansion for a handful of years, and Shrek was not the only park staple to be selected as part of the overhaul. ![]() Regardless, the attraction remained open for an impressive nineteen years until the plug was finally pulled in 2022 to make use of the space for the new Despicable Me expansion. This clip, called Shrek 3-D or the Ghost of Lord Farquaad on particular Shrek DVDs, was no longer a park exclusive and as a result lost a bit of its shine to the general public. When the theater-style Shrek 4-D attraction first opened in 2003, it offered an exclusive video along with motion-based effects, but after the video release of Shrek in 2001, the short film used for the ride was included as a bonus feature. ![]() So, did Universal make the right decision to switch over this classic attraction? The attraction had been steadily declining in popularity over the years and was no longer a must-do for many vacationing families, but many fans were still disappointed to see it go. At very least, the TROLLERCOASTER term has already been rumored to be a name for Universal Studios Florida’s project, so it’s possible these other terms will be as well.In 2022, Universal made the decision to permanently close the Shrek 4-D attraction at Universal Studios Orlando. That smaller theme park in Texas, which is planning to start construction later this year, is also expected to feature DreamWorks-based attractions and lands. Of course, it is always possible that these two trademarked terms, or even the two new ones from this month, could be utilized at the upcoming kid-friendly theme park that Universal is building in Frisco, Texas. They may be related to whatever show is going to be placed within the former Barney/DreamWorks Destination theater, which is expected to become a part of the new DreamWorks land. MAMA LUNA FELINE FIESTA and MAMA LUNA PUSS IN BOOTS FIESTA are terms that could be related to this project. Two names related to Puss in Boots: The Last Wish were trademarked earlier this year, also for use within theme parks. These two new trademark applications are not the only names that we believe may be related to the KidZone replacement though. Universal Orlando did not officially reveal a name for the new area in last month’s official announcement, only referring to it as a DreamWorld land, and not “DreamWorks Land” specifically.
